SCRIBE ARTICLE FOR THE JULY 2009 POSTAL RECORD

At the National Rap Session held April 25 and 26 I stated that we are truly fortunate that we have such a democratic Union. From the regional Shop Steward training sessions, Officers training, Rap Sessions and these very scribe articles, we can write what we want and ask any question that we need to.

At the Committee of Presidents meeting held in Saratoga Springs, New York, our National Union president answered 4 consecutive hours of questions. I don't know of another National Union president that would take the time to answer scores of questions, for hours on end, about any issue- contractual, legislative or political. And I might add, our president, William H. Young, did a hell of good job!

I was going to write this article without knowing that Bill Young was going to retire on July 3. This was announced to the Maryland and DC State Association of Letter Carriers on Lobby Day, June 4. Now, I want to add the following. Under the leadership Of Bill Young, we have maintained 3 pay raises every year and not one single give back to management. In this economical climate, that is nothing short of amazing! All this, and Brother Young has also brought more democracy to our Union. Brother Young, you have done a superb job as our National Union president. Thank you and enjoy your well deserved retirement!

Please visit our web site set up by Union Brother Chuck Clark at (WWW.NALC3825.COM). We have added important Step B decisions, Formal A settlements as well as arbitration decisions and some contentions. You can see how much money each supervisor in the nation makes. You can also see the number of stops on each route, and detailed colored maps for every route in the country!
